Topic review - How Many Arc Flash Labels on Equipment?
Author Message
Post subject:  Re: How Many Arc Flash Labels on Equipment?  Reply with quote
I labelled all cubicles with a generic arc flash warning and label the incoming feed or the main disconnect with the specific label including boundary, calorie etc. For panels I'd have the external specific label and another generic label inside on the dead front panel. In the survey I said "two labels" as I count only the labels with the analysis data.

I generally label every section of an MCC or switchboard. Max I've done is maybe 5 sections.

Panel that had been relabeled every 5 years but the old labels were not removed. And no, the ratings on them were not all the same either.

to name a few:

Motor Control Centers get a label every third vertical section.
MV equipment may get one label for the rear doors, a different one for the breaker cells, and one on the incoming line section.
Equipment with protective relays implementing alternative maintenance settings.

Then the are the 'old days' when people put labels on each compartment of an MCC and every plug-on unit on busway.

Some equipment may have multiple arc flash labels for a variety of reasons.

-Different operating configurations
-Equipment is long/large – including busway
-Equipment has different incident energy for main/feeders such as some switchgear.

There may be other reasons as well.

This week’s question:

What is the greatest number of arc flash labels you have seen/used on electrical equipment?
1
2
3
More than 3 (how many?)
