Hello all,

Do you need to wear Arc Flash PPE when visually inspecting a 480 volt panel open?

Another question. When changing a door on a 480 volt panel are we required to de-energize if we can.

I am pretty sure I know the answers, but just want to verify as I am new to Electrical safety and NFPA 70e.

Thank you

Yes you have to wear Arc Flash PPE when visually inspecting the 480V panel as long as you are inside the arc flash boundary with exposed, energized live conductors that have not been put into an electrically safe work condition.

As far as changing the door on a 480 volt panel while it is energized....you will have to deenergize the panel, unless deenergizing the panel would cause an increased hazard or is infeasible (doubt you can claim either case) Shut down the power (verify zero abscence in the proper manner) and then go home happy
