The list of cable sizes in the SKM PTW does not include #3 AWG.
Anyone have any idea why?

#3 awg wire (and cable) isn't a standard size and not carried by suppliers. It has to be special ordered if you really want it... Options are #4 or #2 awg is standard and cost less than special ordering #3 awg. In my 37 years in the trade I've only seen #3 awg once in the field. It was special ordered by a PE that had no idea what he was doing.

We see #3 AWG routinely when gathering data for arc flash studies. Our local suply house also carries it at a price between #4 and #2. It is perfect for 80 amp circuits. It is included in the EasyPower library.

I've been an electrician for over 20 years and I've seen - and used - #3 often. My understanding is - and feel free to correct me - SKM uses conductor properties from the RED BOOK, however the RED BOOK does not list properties for #3. The NEC DOES contain the property values for #3, BUT won't let you reuse them for publication (copyrite), or SKM won't pay to use them. Thus SKM does not have #3 in the library.

SKM does have #3 and #14 - I have gotten it from them. They also have GGC cable that I got from the manufacturer. The problem is most wire manufacturers do not have the required data readily available. The GGC cable took a couple of weeks to get. The file is attached as a ver 7 library.

engrick, hey thanks a bunch! The answer I gave actually came from SKM - all be it some years ago - and I can't remember "verbatum". Thanks again for the lib!

If you link to the TECK 90 conductors you have a #3 in the library.
I don't understand why SKM does not include it in the standard NEC table 310 libraries. They have heard from a lot of us about this. I think it may be because #3 is not recognized by IEEE redbook.

Etap doesn't have #3 or 300 mcm. I simply used the "user library" function and created wire library from NEC.

Can someone post a SKM lib file with the #3 AWG wire?

Not sure about SKM but #3 AWG cable is included in Short Circuit Analytic built-in library in different forms and shapes (voltage rating, material, configuration and conduit type). You can pull out the cable resistance and reactance values from SCA free demo and add these to SKM library. The values are from IEEE Standard 141
