I am trying to find a way in SKM to generate a report with all circuit breaker settings in one report, sorted by bus. I would prefer it in spreadsheet form with one device per row, so it could be easily sorted. I can produce an Excel report for "static trip" devices that is usable. I have not found way to do this for "thermal magnetic" devices that produces a sortable spreadsheet and it is in a different format than the static trip report.

When I talked to SKM support their only suggestion was for me to purchase a full Crystal Reports license and I could run the report I with that.

Reporting has been my biggest frustration with SKM. Has anyone tried Crystal Reports? Any other suggestions?

I haven't used crystal reports formally for any studies. It's certainly better though than the txt reports. In another life, some smart guy developed a script that did all of the heavy lifting for us.

Here's how I do it:

Document: component editor; Run, Query, All protective Devices.

Run datablock format (protective device settings)

Run datablock report

Save in Xcel format. Everything will be sorted alphabetically.

Then you can modify in Xcel to make it look good.

Thanks, but this is the part I struggle with. If it would give me a report in Excel with one device per row it could easily be sorted and parsed as needed, but I've played around with datablock formats and and can't seem to get an output that can be readily sorted. Most devices have data spread over multiple rows and varying numbers of rows depending on the type of device, so it seems like sorting is nearly impossible, except to do it completely manually.

When I explained this to SKM support, their only advice was to buy Crystal Reports. I don't mind doing that if I thought it would give me what I need, but they can't seem to tell me. I was hoping to find someone who has used it.

Have you tried creating a PTW 'user defined attribute' for sorting the datablocks ?

Another way could be to use the the datavisualizer. Copy/paste/modify the protective device setting datablock format if need be. The visualizer exports to xls.

In all honesty, though: Because the frame/sensor/plug and segments in SKM don't necessarily follow what actually is required or is actually a setting on the physical device, we create our own setting tables independent of data exporting. This way the customer doesn't have to translate the segment nomenclature to the real world themselves.

The GE/ABB Record Plus FE, FG Premeon trip units as an example. The 'plug' shown in SKM is actually a LTPU setting.
