Indeed, a very sad incident. I cannot think of any reason why this needed to be done live. There are still entirely too many people in the electric trade who consider live work a necessity when it will save time or money. “If I don’t work on this live, the boss / customer will find someone who will”. Maybe someone felt pressured or maybe someone was just lazy. Aside from the human cost, someone just won the reverse lottery. Bob Ragsdale, P.E. |

MSHA report MSHA usually produces a very thorough report, but it takes time. Notice the work was being done on 10-10-10, which was a Sunday. Most quarries I have been in are closed on Sunday, only mentioning it because it suggests live work could have been avoided. I searched the web for the contractor name and quickly read more, but just newspaper accounts which were not instructive. |
