I have been asked by my customer how does the NEC apply to a -48VDC system (Gov't office). The question relates to short-circuit rating of equipment feed by a -48VDC battery back-up system.

If I remeber correctly the NEC excludes low voltage systems (<72V), which it does not governn, but I can not find this within teh NEC code book.

Can anyone asist?

Thanks
Jack

Effectively, the NEC covers all voltages. It does have a section on power limited systems which has limitations on voltage (usually <30VDC) and current.

It is only NFPA70E that has a defined cut off.
