There is a new publication, the IEEE 1584b-2011 IEEE Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations--Amendment 2: Changes to Clause 4. Can anybody tell me which are the changes this new publication is addressing? |

It contained some text changes and a few other minor changes but wasn't anything major - . i.e. it is not the new Edition of IEEE 1584. |

Will the results of the calculation change if I do not know the changes in the amendment? In your opinion, Is it worth to spend $65 for this amendment? Thanks. |

1584b addresses how you go about doing an arc flash study. It is not the calculation itself that is contained in 1584. There are no calculations in 1584b. The only way it could affect you at all is from how you do your field survey. |

Are you referring to IEEE1584.1 2013. This is the standard that recommends the scope of work (including survey) and deliverables. By the way you referred to 1584b, it looks similar. |

My mistake. And although there have been a few revisions of IEEE 1584 itself, the changes I saw were really minor as Jim said. He should know since he's a big part of running the group that edits IEEE 1584. I didn't see anything that has altered the equations since 2002. There is a major change coming. However, IEEE is not the same as NFPA. With NFPA every change goes through an up/down vote and has pretty much a set calendar for when everything has to happen. All NFPA documents are on either a 3 or 5 year revision cycle. IEEE isn't like that, and the makeup of the standards groups also includes a much broader group of people. So it is much slower. It is beginning to sound like the major revision will be in the next year or two though. |
