| Post subject: | Arc Flash Study Reports |
We are about to begin a study in our 4 manufacturing buildings. Right now we are making basic templates for data collection, analysis, and reporting. A few questions came up concerning the reporting after the study is completed. Are there standards given for the Arc Flash Study Reports or are the reports unique to each study? Is there a template that has already been created by NFPA or IEEE? What MUST BE in the report? If there is a template or example of these reports floating on the net, does anyone know where they can be obtained? |

As far as I know there is no existing standard out there which recommends what goes in a arc-flash study/fault current study report. However, the IEEE 1584 group has a working group that is currently working on a new standard which will answer questions just like yours. The IEEE 1584.1 standard will not be out for couple more years. [Hint: Join the group As far as the report goes, it is pretty much defined by the scope of work. I have been working on an arc-flash report myself for couple of months and I could say the report should have a --Executive Summary (Summarizing results of SC study, Coordination Study, AF study etc.) --Introduction ( You can define the scope of work, objective, system description, background info on arc-flash for non-technical personnel.) --Conclusions and Recommendations (after analyzing SC study, Coordination Study, and AF study results. Recommendations can be made on a cost of implementation basis) --Incorporating Results This is just a brief outline. Depending on the magnitude of job, types of equipment you are dealing with (and budget You can also go through some of the threads in this forum where you will find more information (including links to articles...) which will help you with your report. |

IEEE is regared as more accurate and 70E as more conservative, therr are advantages to both. |

In reports we have done we numbered all the busses, drew the numbers on a single line diagram and then issued the calculated results in a spread sheet. There are some label formats that we also included the fields in the spread sheet, that made it a simple matter to print up the labels. You might want to check what your labels will say and work backwords. NFPA70E offers the methodology and IEEE the calculations, that have been adopted by most factories that I've discussed this with. The calculations offered in NFPA 70E do not work well for over 480V and some of the software programs no longer allow that option. |
