What kind of field training would licensed electricians need to be deemed a "qualified employee" that are already working at the company that has started tha training as in 70e ? The company has already given the classroom training. |

If they are 'licensed' electricians then they obviously know the dangers associated with their jobs. Your company training class would be sufficient for them to enter the field. But that depends on your class covering all the needed materials, work permits, educating the managers and other employees, making sure clothing is available, etc. |

I would never assume that, I have trained thousands of "Licensed Electricians" that had no idea of the hazards or how to determoine the hazards. |

Training We use a layered approach: Legislated - we have all our employees attend a 1 day "high voltage" training course run by an outside training provider. This is mandatory for all electrical workers in my province. Everyone who gets the legislated training receives a copy of CSA Z462 (or NFPA 70e before Z462 was released). We provide annual on-site refresher training which is 4 hours long and involves reading material, videos and written tests. We also do annual Arc Flash training for qualified workers complete with practical testing. Finally, we regularly audit our employees when they are doing work requiring arc flash PPE (racking, switching, etc). |

Qualified-in brief: One that is knowledgeable of the equipment, proper PPE, work methods, and hazard identification. Also one may add: Demonstrates knowledge; visually monitored by an authority and work methods checked off while being observed and knowing the proper work methods listed in part above. As of now no other criteria exist that I am aware of to be qualified. |
