I have been taking a lot of flak lately when I try to talk about Arc flash Analysis and OSHA compliance . They feel it is overkill, compared to the results.(Obviously they have never had an arc flash incident.)
I have tried to persuade them that the law is in place and I am here to help them comply with it, and make a safer work place in the process.
Over the years they have been inundated with regulations and compliance issues. They feel this is just another case of Government intervention for the sake of raising money thru fines.
I am sympathetic to, and familiar with, the struggle that all business is going thru. They feel that the straw that will break the camels back is just a polititians signature away, and enough is enough.
They think that we (The Engineers and Tainers) drove OSHA to this point to make work for ourselves.
I try the argument that Safety equipment, training, Safety Programs and qualification of employees is cheap compared to non compliance fines and rehab for a burn victim.
How do you handle this ?

Capt Jim,

You're on the right track. My advice, be cheerful, be polite and be firm. When people stat going down the political track, try to steer the discussion back to the main issue. Safe work costs less.

Good luck!
