Post subject:  Extension Cord Fault

Using the extension cord as a disconnect for a 1/2HP motor caused the cord to catch on fire. GFCI or circuit breaker feeding the cord did not trip. 120VAC.

Probably caused by excessive resistance at plug vs. over amperage. This would result in more heat than could normally be dissipated by the plug until it ignited.

Yeah, and there appears to be little to no damage around the ground pin, so it looks like a GFCI might not have noticed this event at all.
