This week's question is a follow up to an earlier question about the 2012 Edition of NFPA 70E which will require a balaclava sock with Category 2 protection. For the new requirement of wearing a balaclava sock with category 2, how will this affect your existing PPE requirements? We have already been using the balaclava sock We will need to add this to our PPE requirements Something else (please explain) |

We just ordered 2 different balaclavas and 2 different relatively light weight (ATPV 24) hoods. We are going to pass them around to the electricians in a safety meeting and allow them to select their preference of what to wear. We will then purchase enough of that item, but we will standardize on one or the other. If they select balaclavas, I guess each electrician will be isssued their own. The way they fit so close to the nose, mouth and eyes sharing seems akin in concept to sharing underwear. This might be met with some resistance. |
