Although the Informative Annexes found in the back of NFPA 70E are not part of the requirements of NFPA 70E, they can provide useful information.

Once such annex is Annex O – Safety Related Design Practices. This annex provides design options to eliminate the hazards or reduce the risk by:

Reducing the likelihood of exposure
Reducing the magnitude or severity of exposure
Enabling achievement of an electrically safe work condition.

I believe some of the sales literature for the GE arc terminator does a much better job of describing the options. The vast majority of the options anyway boil down to various schemes to target arcing time with few options targeting distance or current or even direct thermal energy reduction.
