PPE and Arc Flash Studies are about protecting the worker from burn injury as a result of an arc flash. This week’s question is about burn injury from ANY source. Arc flash, fire, hot surface etc. Have you ever been burned? (from any source) Yes – First Degree Yes – Second Degree Yes – Third Degree No (Stories are encouraged!) |

Gas stove (probably the first bright memory from childhood) Boiled water СаС2 (aka Carbide) water mixture explosion (burnt eyebrows, eyelashes and fingers) Electric heater Campfire Sunburn Contrary to widely spread and arc flash industry accepted concept of 1.2 cal/cm2 threshold incident energy to 2nd degree burn, I strongly believe that the scope and severity of burn has nothing to do with the amount of incident energy but with the rate the energy has been delivered. |
