For panelboards, the next upstream protective device located in a separate enclosure is normally used to define the arc duration. This weeks' question:

Have you ever used a panelboards local main device to define its arc duration?

What is the correct procedure for evaluating the AFCT for the service panel when there's only one OCPD between it and the utility service entrance? What if it's a 3000A switchboard? Do you know how this should be handled in ETAP?

I have done this when the incoming wires were complete covered in a lexan shield inside an open cabinet style MCC. I don't believe now that it is correct, but i think realistically, it was ok.
