I am at an IEEE meeting this weekend and had a long discussion about renewable energy systems and safety. That prompted this week's question.

Have you worked with renewable energy systems? What types?

I worked specifically on a solar inverter, but the inverter was supposed to do wind and tidal as well. It also was able to use battery power as well.

Yes, with several types: Photovoltaics and Energy Storage: Lithium Battery, Flow Battery, Flywheel, Thermal. All this from residential to utility-scale installations.

Not sure if this counts as renewable, but I worked on a downhill conveyor that regenerated power by a VFD.

I would think a regenerative downhill belt conveyor would not necessarily be a renewable energy source. We see this sort of thing in EV regenerative braking as well. I believe this would mainly fall under the heading of system efficiency. Plus the electrical safety aspects should be well covered by VFD safety standard, I should think. ~Doug
