Post subject: | Multiple Operating Scenarios and Labels |
This week’s question is about a common problem. If an electrical system has multiple operating scenarios/conditions that could result in different levels of PPE, what information goes on the label? Some may place the worst case incident energy and arc flash boundary on the label. Others may use multiple labels for each condition. Back in 2018, NFPA 70E added a 3rd option to 130.5(H) Exception 2 where the information can be documented elsewhere and taken on a case by case basis. This means first, determine the operating scenario, then check the documentation (arc flash study) to see what is required for that specific case. None of the options are perfect and there are many views of each option. There may be more than one answer for a particular company or consultant so select up to 3 answers that apply to you. This week’s question: For multiple scenarios, what information do you place on the labels? -Worst case information -Use more than one label -130.5(H) Exception 2 - Case by case -Something else - EXPLAIN PLEASE -Doesn’t apply |
