Operators in one of our facilities want approval to install viewing windows on 13.8kV switchgear doors to view breaker status (open, closed, test position, etc.). These are a retrofit product from Fluke that have voltage, temperature and pull-out ratings that exceed IEEE C37.20.2 standards for viewing windows. Is this a reasonably safe thing to do with respect to arc flash? Regards |

Since the consensus is that credit is not taken for switchgear, MCC, switch doors for reducing AFH, unless specifically designed and rated as arc resistant, I don't think installing the windows will affect the choice of PPE. |
