Post subject:  Asymmetrical short-circuit current

Hi Guys! How are you?

My name is Wagner, I'm Electrical Engineering student in Brazil.

It's posible use the Asymmetrical short-circuit current for arc flash calculations? Can I use the asymmetrical current like a safety factor?

Thanks,
Wagner. :)

Using the asymmetrical short circuit current would be like introducing a very large multiplying factor. If the protective device / arc flash clearing time remained the same as the symmetrical case, then yes this would be conservative and worst case (although I have not heard of anyone doing this). However, using the higher value could lead to a faster protective device operation and lower the overall incident energy.
