| Post subject: | Labels For Equipment That Is Plugged In |
When you guys are doing your studies how do you handle equipment that is plugged in? Say you have SO cord dropped from a 480v bus duct and the equipment is plugged in but has a disconnect on the side of it. Does this disconnect need a arc flash label? Does it matter if the equipment is on wheels and could be moved and plugged in at another location where the IE could be higher? How do you handle these type situations when collecting data for your surveys. Thanks |

How do you handle these type situations when collecting data for your surveys. Thanks How about if you are a mine with about 60+ substations that get moved every 7-100 days? Yes, its a problem but consider the ultimate goal. You need to label equipment subject to frequent maintenance by NEC Code so if it rarely (less than once a year) gets any, it might be easier/faster to do it on the spot. Otherwise you need to adjust the input conditions to determine worst case or worst reasonable case and use that or make it standard practice to relabel when it moves or provide a table of values. Coal mines are required to change breaker settings based on cable length for a very similar setup. Recognizing that cable impedance lowers the available fault current, MSHA requires them to adjust trip settings accordingly. |
