How does one handle large generator / synchronous condenser static exciters and slip rings? Since the cabinets are multi-section, we are considering two labels, one of the AC incoming and the second for the remaining sections. Also, we are considering two values on the label, one for the generator / synchronous condenser running and the second value for the units not running since much of the work on the exciter will be done in this condition. Some have overcurrent relays / breaker protection and some also have thyristor fuse protection. Exciters can be configured with AC exciter breakers and or DC filed breakers. Another item of interest is – will the machine decrement curve be quicker (less than 2 seconds) if the protection drops the field? Field forcing can be 3 pu, will the exciter thyristors limit the current to this value or will they act like diodes?

Yes, you should put multiple labels on the equipment. I would put an AC label on the AC side and DC in the high power sections. FOr the other questions, I think that it would be good to talk to the manufacture of the Exciter.
