While doing arc flash calculation, should we consider the Peak kA or RMS value.

Wouldn't it be a conservative way to consider the Peak short circuit ? or is it plain wrong

thanks

Have you read the IEEE 1584 standard?

It is the bolted rms symmetrical fault current. Plus evaluating different scenarios, max and min etc. to see if it affects overcurrent device operation. If you are about to undertake an arc flash study, you might want to take a deep dive into the standard and all of it's moving parts. There is a lot to know.

The "Training" menu item above takes you to IEEE 1584 / Arc Flash training and there are a few free classes, articles and videos on the subject to help.

Check back if you have more questions.
