So......NFPA 70E states the limited approach boundary for 120VAC is "avoid contact"
Does that mean I can use a multimeter without voltage-rated gloves if I don't touch the energized 120VAC device with my body.....or is my meter "contacting" it.....thus requiring shock protection gear?

My opinion is that voltage rated gloves are not required for this work, since you'll have rated voltage probes as your means to "avoid contact".
