When does the actual 'arc blast' explosion occur? Does a system arc over for some amount of time before the blast occurs or is it fairly instantaneous? I only ask because applying some sort of 2 second clearing time only seems to make sense if a system is arcing, but no blast has occurred. If the blast is fairly instantaneous once a fault occurs, how does the clearing time even come into play?

Arc Blast
I would say instantaneously.
If you have seen some of my earlier posts, and given that the latest round of
PG&E tests could not sustain an arc at 480 volts for longer than 85 cycles, I do believe the greatest danger to the worker is from the initial arc blast. If you looked at the test videos, the fact that the clothing did not burn doesn't seem to be the only issue. With the right blast energy, you are not hanging around for the clearing time anyway!
