Post subject:  required PPE's

Hello,

I am trying to figure out what level of ppe's are required for use by our service department. We are behind the times with electrical specific PPE's I have a couple of books on order, however I am trying to get a head start on finding prices and information.

We service wastewater treatment plants, and pumping systems. The typical job includes working on 120 to 480 volt single and three phase controls and pumps or motors. We work with the power disconnected if possible, however during troubleshooting we have to work on live circuits completing tasks such as measuring voltage and current.

Thank you for any information you may be able to give.

Buy a copy of NFPA 70E and you can refer to the tables. You will need to know the fault current and clearing time at the work location to use the tables. If the fault current and clearing time is outside the limits, an arc flash hazard analysis will be required.

Brian,

You will find HRC 0-4 in the systems you described, you will also find some Ei's where PPE cant protect you becuse you are not within the limitations of the tables and the calculated Ei is >40cal/cm2.
