Post subject:  Navy uniforms flammable
When I was in our uniforms were all FR (Treated). Suprised to read this, the part about issuing FR uniforms when necessary is bull, electricians are in panels everyday, fires are always a threat.

When I was in (Navy 79-85) our issued uniforms were 100% cotton for dungarees or coveralls and dress uniforms weren't worn working in hazardous areas. The last year we had coveralls issued to us from the Navy textile research group that were a mix of Nomex and Kevlar. The material was a bit thin for durability but the stuff never melted on the superheated steam piping. The Navy was ahead of the curve with an active and comprehensive lock out / tag out program and the use of PPE so it is surprizing to hear they are being lax on safety issues.

They should be doing a better job than that.
