The issue is ability to hear when wearing an arc flash hood and hearing protection. Our employees wear the E-A-R ear plugs with the yellow portion inserted that allows normal sound thru but will dampen in an arc blast. They still have difficulties hearing. Any comments to wearing a headset (ear muffin hearing protection and microphone) under a 40 cal hood (assuming it fits and is comfortable)? Wouldnât the 40 cal hood protect against any concern with the headset melting during an arc flash event? A similar argument has been made for the foam ear plugs. I am interested in othersâ options, experiences and comments.

As with any PPE, test first. Some PPE such as rubber and leather gloves varies so little between manufacturers that it can be categorically accepted.
