Does anyone know how similar the Z462 standard will be to the 70E standard? Also, when does it become official? Thanks! |

Csa Z462 What I know about Z462 is that it will be developed in parallel with the next Edition of NFPA 70E, and, based on an agreement with NFPA, an attempt will be made to harmonize Z462 with NFPA 70E as much as possible for Canadian workplaces. It should be very similar to 70E but I do not have any details of the draft. CSA announced on January 1, 2006 that they would be developing CSA Z462,and the first edition of the CSA Z462 Standard will be completed in late 2008. |

SEE www.esps.ca for LATEST NEWS ON CSA Z462 Hi! I am currently Vice-Chair on CSA Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety Standard. I have created a new company ESPS Electrical Safety Program Solutions INC., the company website will have the latest information on CSA Z462 on it, as it is available to the public. Our next CSA Z462 Technical Comm meeting is on October 15-16, 2007 in Calgary, Alberta. This is only a week or so after the next NFPA 70E meetings in San Diego. We will be posting updates on 70E, IEEE !584, and the IEEE and NFPA joint project on the website. Z462 will be available for public review and comment around April 2008, with plans to be finalized by December 2008, or January. Yes, this is in parallel with 70E. The mandate is not to deviate from Chapters 1-4 of 70E, but to Canadianize 70E as Z462. Unfortunately we are not rubber stamping it, and in the process, there will be changes in Chapters 1-4. Yes there will be changes to the Scope. Yes we are proposed to add Annexes that will not be in 70E. I will check the ArcFlashForum.com from time to time and reply to any threads. Regards; Terry Becker |

How do you "Canadianize" something, aye? |

In Canada the Canadian Standards Association (equivalent to NFPA), has mandatory style requirements, as well the document must be "Canadianized" by ensuring if references other applicable Canadian Standards, not US based Standards. We are also not "rubber stamping" the document, we have expertise here that will allow to make improvements to the content that cannot be implemented in the US due to NFPA's process.
