Post subject:  Provincial Health and Safety regulations

I heard that the Ontario were looking at introducing a Health & Safety regulation for working practices re Arc Flash Hazards - ahead of Z462's introduction in 2008/2009- but can find no information on their Ministry of Labour website.
Any information on this (confirmation / denial) would be helpful.

I checked with my contact with Ontario Minstry of Labour, your information is wrong as I suspected, I had not heard anything.

Suggest you were misinformed.

Also note that CSA Z462 will be available for stakeholder review sometime in April/May 2008.

After this the Technical Comm will review the stakeholder comments in June, and most likely hand off the final version for CSA final approvals.

Should be in print by December 2008.

Update on Provincial and Terrortorial Adoption

There is not information at this time that any Province or Territory is planned on adopting CSA Z462 into law.

That said it is the OH&S Regulations that are the key, and language has been added in severl Provinces.

All of this is mute anyways, the Province and Territories can reference CSA Z462 in an OH&S order without having to adopt it into law.

It's all about due diligence and been able to prove you have taken reasonable action to protect the worker, CSA Z462 raises the due diligence bar.

Phil

Ontario has had regulations in place for many years for live work
OHSA 851 Regulations 42 43 79 and 84

The MOL typically recognizes and references CSA standards in orders and in court

The regulations are law telling you what you have to do
Standards are descriptive and prescriptive telling how to do it

Csa provides a website where you can see what standards are referenced in regs

You have to check each Province or Territories OH&S Regulations for specific requirements.

Just to let those know who check these threads there is a CSA website where you can check what CSA Standards are currently referenced in OH&S Regulations.

I have the link on my website.
