Post subject:  SHELTER POWER IE ANALYSIS

My company produces shelters for harsh environments. Normally the shelters have a 208/120V input however this project I am working on has a requirement for a 380V/220V. I am looking to hook a transformer to power the shelter for basic tests and verification and would like to ensure the risk of an arc flash is minimal. When I look at the 462 tables and decision diagram it looks like I would have to do an incident energy analysis. I found a few online calculators and have come up with an IE less than 1 cal/cm^2. Would someone be willing to do an informal check based on the attached diagram and run it through ETAP? We do not have a license for it since we would not use it enough. I would like to get something done informally and then take it to get a proper analysis done if there is discrepancy.

Hard to see your image on my phone but it looks like you only have a 9 kva transformer. If so, I expect your available fault current wouldn't be high enough to sustain an arc fault.

Correct, 9KVA

I don't know your available fault current, your proposed cable sizes or lengths, your proposed exact fuses, etc. so I am guaranteeing nothing about the screen captures below. SKM does confirm however that with such low fault currents, and your 12A fuse blowing very quickly, IE is likely extremely low.

Thank you very much bbaumer! I'm going to bring this to the shop manager, and see how they want to proceed!
