Could i use the (DB) empirically derived model equation of IEEE Std 1584-2002 to calculate the Flash-protection boundary (for box configurations) and the Lee (DB) equation (for open air configurations)?

I can´t find a equation for DC Arc flash boundary.

consider using equations 11 and 13 from http://arcadvisor.com/faq/dc-arc-flash- ... y-modeling for dc arc in open and arc in a box respectively.

Thanks arcad for the equations. I read the IEEE 1584 again, and i have found that the AFB depends of the equation used to calculate the incident energy. In this case your equation its ok for me.

No prob, mauricioville. FYI, this calculation procedure has been coded in DCAFA V3.0 software program and is very similar to the procedure proposed by Jim Phillips in Know Your Arc: DC arc flash calculations. It also takes into account circuit time constant when determining arc duration as a function of predicted arcing current, upstream protection device type and rating, and the fault time constant.
