I first read about the ABB TVOC-2 on this site. Subsequently, I downloaded and read the ABB literature. Looks good, any first hand experience users here with TVOC-2 or TVOC, the predecessor?
One TVOC-2 characteristic struck me, current sensing is an option. It might be valid to exclude current sensing, particularly if the optical sensors are well protected from spurious light.
More on this later perhaps, still considering recent experience with another optical/current relay install. Testing the optical portion is simple, but doing a current and optical test is more challenging, because equipment must be powered and running to have real world amps in the test.

Current injection + camera flash
You can use some kind of currect injection device and a camera flash to test light & current based arc-flash protection. Not too difficult.

Testing optical sensing relays.
Need a current injection device to emulate 3 CT signals, each 120 degrees phase shifted. Need ability to vary and record applied current. Each phase individually, or in groups of 2 or 3. Does any vendor offer such a portable test instrument? My good old Fluke Processmeter could source 4-20 mA, DC, but that was it.
Then using camera strobe is no real problem, as long as cabinet covers can be removed.
Also have to remember to short secondaries of any CTs disconnected for relay test purposes.
Final test needs to be full power, but then cabinets need to be closed. Need a remotely triggered strobe. Some will trigger by light as a slave from another strobe, but how to get that light through an enclosure wall?
These and more are issues I am pondering...

Current injection device
Need a current injection device?
- Freja 3000
- Omicron CMC 356 or 256

Link to intruction manual
Hi both,
Since I'm working with these products and found your question alittle bit late on this forom. Here you can find the instruction manual. I think the testing is on page 6 for CSU.
As you said it's not to be considered a standard solution, and you are right it's more tricky to test the over current in an as reliable way. But in some cases necessary. As seen in this manual you can simulate overcurrent by turning the potentiometers in the products in the correct way (see manual).
