As a result, IEEE 1584:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arc-flash boundary distances are calculated in <strong>millimeters<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Incident energy is calculated in <strong>joules per square centimeter (J\/cm\u00b2)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This isn\u2019t optional. IEEE standards are written to be internationally applicable, and the metric system is required for consistency. It should be noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/brainfiller.com\/es\/nfpa-70e\/arcing-fault-current-nfpa70e\/\">IEEE 1584<\/a> is a global standard and some countries or regions do prefer metric units.<\/p>\n<p>So when an arc-flash study is performed, the raw calculation results coming out of IEEE 1584 are always metric \u2014 even if you never see those units on the final report or label.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-014adaf elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"014adaf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why Labels Show Inches, Feet, or Decimals<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b60af93 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b60af93\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>NFPA 70E does <strong>no<\/strong> mandate a specific unit system for arc-flash labels. What NFPA 70E 130.5(H) <em>does<\/em> require is that electrical equipment be labeled with <strong>meaningful arc-flash information<\/strong> so workers can recognize the hazard and take appropriate protective measures.<\/p><p>To meet that requirement, arc-flash software typically converts:<\/p><ul><li>Millimeters into <strong>inches, feet, or meters<\/strong><\/li><li>Based on <strong>user preference, company standards, or regional practice<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>That\u2019s why you may see:<\/p><ul><li>42 inches on one NFPA 70E label<\/li><li>1.1 meters on another<\/li><li>3.5 feet on a third<\/li><\/ul><p>The math is correct \u2014 it just wasn\u2019t rounded to a \u201cnice\u201d number after conversion.
