\"125125 kVA \u2013 \u00a1Se va, se va, se fue!<\/strong><\/h2>

Despu\u00e9s de mucha especulaci\u00f3n sobre el destino de la \u201cexcepci\u00f3n\u201d del transformador de 125 kVA, la edici\u00f3n 2018 de IEEE 1584 \u2013 Gu\u00eda IEEE para realizar c\u00e1lculos de riesgo de arco el\u00e9ctrico<\/em> \u00a1Finalmente se public\u00f3 y se hizo oficial! \u00a1Se elimin\u00f3 la excepci\u00f3n del transformador de 125 kVA!<\/p>

En su lugar est\u00e1 el nuevo lenguaje:<\/p>

\u201cLos arcos el\u00e9ctricos sostenibles son posibles, pero menos probables en sistemas trif\u00e1sicos que funcionan a 240 V nominales o menos con una corriente de cortocircuito disponible inferior a 2000 A\u201d<\/em><\/p>

\u00bfQu\u00e9 pas\u00f3?<\/strong><\/h2>

El texto original es de la edici\u00f3n 2002 de IEEE 1584. Se basaba en algunas pruebas que indicaban que ser\u00eda poco probable que se produjera un arco el\u00e9ctrico con niveles m\u00e1s bajos de corriente de cortocircuito y voltaje m\u00e1s bajo debido a un plasma conductor limitado y un voltaje limitado para sustentar el arco. El texto original de 2002 establec\u00eda:<\/p>

\u201cNo es necesario considerar equipos por debajo de 240 V a menos que involucren al menos un transformador de baja impedancia de 125 kVA o mayor en su suministro de energ\u00eda inmediata\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Sin embargo, las pruebas posteriores para la edici\u00f3n 2018 de IEEE 1584, junto con el uso de nuevas configuraciones de electrodos que se introdujeron, indican que, en condiciones muy espec\u00edficas, era posible mantener un arco hasta un valor de corriente mucho m\u00e1s bajo que el que se utiliz\u00f3 como base para el nuevo valor de 2000 amperios. Sin embargo, incluso a ese nivel, no hay garant\u00edas de que un arco nunca se mantenga. Es por eso que se agregaron las palabras: "Los arcos sostenibles son posibles, pero menos probables". Tal como dice: Es poco probable, pero nunca digas nunca.<\/p>

Otra desviaci\u00f3n del lenguaje original es basar el l\u00edmite inferior en la corriente de cortocircuito en lugar de utilizar kVA como se encontr\u00f3 en la edici\u00f3n de 2002. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9? Porque el problema no depende realmente del tama\u00f1o del transformador. Depende de la corriente de cortocircuito y existe una relaci\u00f3n entre el tama\u00f1o del transformador y la corriente de cortocircuito. Esta vez, el enfoque se centra simplemente en la corriente, independientemente de lo que result\u00f3 en la corriente m\u00e1s baja. De esa manera, si hay un caso como un alimentador largo que tiene una corriente de cortocircuito baja pero resulta que est\u00e1 alimentado por un transformador m\u00e1s grande, el nuevo lenguaje puede usarse independientemente del tama\u00f1o del transformador.<\/p>

\u00bf125 kVA y NFPA 70E?<\/strong><\/h2>

Algunas personas suelen hacer referencia a la excepci\u00f3n de 125 kVA como si tuviera su origen en la norma NFPA 70E y piensan que ya se hab\u00eda eliminado. Ese no es el caso. Se agreg\u00f3 a la edici\u00f3n de 2009 de la norma NFPA 70E, pero el lenguaje se deriv\u00f3 de la edici\u00f3n de 2002 de la norma IEEE 1584.
