Jim Phillips, International Chair of IEC TC78 along with the world’s leading technical experts for Live Working all came together in Jonage (Lyon), France this week for their Plenary and Working Group meetings. 

Mr. Phillps stated, “It is such an honor to be the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 of IEC TC 78 Live Working which is represented by 𝟒𝟐 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 comprise of 𝟏𝟓𝟗 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬.”  

TC 78 is responsible for developing international standards for tools, equipment and devices used in Live Working. What does that mean?  Next time you see an electrical worker up on an electric utility pole or working on electrical equipment, we develop the product standards to keep them safe.

TC78 presently has 65 total publications including arc flash protection, hand tools, electrically insulated gloves, blankets and much more.

The International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC) based in Geneva, Switzerland brings together approximately 170 countries and provides a global, neutral and independent standardization and conformity assessment platform for 30 000 experts globally. TC 78 is one of the many committees within the IEC.

IEC work directly underpins the targets of all 17 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬 and adheres to the six principles of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 which are integral to “Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) agreement.
