Evidence of Impending Failure – Water Damage
2024 NFPA 70E 110.2(B) Exception No. 1 lists seven conditions that must be met for a normal operating condition to exist for operating electrical equipment.
One of these conditions is: “There is no evidence of impending failure.” This can be somewhat subjective including observations such as visible damage, deterioration, and water damage.
A new informational note was added which references NEMA GD 1-2019 for evaluating water-damaged electrical equipment.
In this short video I describe this new addition and illustrate its importance with a discussion about electrical equipment in a water filled drainage ditch at a Formula One race a few years ago. (Yes, a big F1 Fan)
