The 2027 edition of NFPA 70E changes the conformity-assessment requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) in Section 130.7(C)(14)(b).

The standalone self-declaration option with only a Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity has been removed. The revised language retains two paths: self-declaration under a registered quality management system with product testing by an accredited laboratory and a Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity, or certification by an accredited independent third-party certification organization.

An exception permits PPE marked under a supplier’s or manufacturer’s self-declaration before the effective date of the 2027 edition – essentially a grandfather provision.
